My Summer Skincare Routine

One of the amazing benefits of being a beauty, wellness and lifestyle blogger is the amount of super cool products I get to try and write about.  It is one of my missions to discover the best in natural beauty, health, and sustainable living products, and to share with you everything I’ve discovered!  To that end, I’m starting a seasonal series of updates on my current skincare routine.  Due to the sheer number of products I get sent, my routine changes pretty regularly, but favorite products tend to stick around.

In the summertime, I go for three big factors in my skincare routine:

  1. Keeping pores clean (due to the natural buildup of oils in the hot weather)
  2. Antioxidants (to offset damage from the summer sun)
  3. Sun protection (SPF all day everyday, yo)

So here is my current summer skincare routine:

MORNING:

Cleanse: Since I use the oil face wash method in the evening, in the morning I literally just splash my face with warm water to remove my overnight products, and that’s it.  This keeps my skin hydrated, and keeps it from overproducing oils.

Tone: I have long been a fan of Thayer’s Alcohol-Free Rose Petal Witch Hazel Toner, but I’m especially into in during the summer months.  Witch hazel deeps cleans, tones, and balances skin, while the rose and aloe vera are both very healing for sun damaged skin.

Treat: A good serum is like a skincare secret weapon.  These days, I’m playing with the super cool Conture Skin Toning System, and have been loving the Kinetic Treatment Serum, which is loaded with hydrating, wrinkle-fighting peptides, inyline, and encapsulated retinal.

Hydrate: In the summer, I like some light hydration that comes packed with age and damage fighting ingredients, so I’m loving the Conture Kinetic AM Ignition Lotion. It’s lightweight, easily absorbable, and loaded with hyaluronic acid to plump and hydrate my skin.

Eyes: The research around the use of CBD (cannabinoids) in fighting aging has been super compelling, and I am seeing some really great results from my CBD For Life Eye Serum. Honestly, I’ve found that it works better than so much of the super expensive fancy eye creams out there.

Protect: The Andalou Naturals Brightening BB Cream with SPF 30 has been a mainstay in my beauty routine for over a year now.  I love it.  It evens out skin tone, provides just enough coverage to not need any other makeup, is loaded with antioxidants, and protects the hell out of skin.  I apply once in the morning and can be out in the sun all day long without even getting a hint of redness!

NIGHT:

Cleanse: The oil face wash method is so where it’s at — it hydrates, deep cleans pores, slows aging, and prevents breakouts, all without over-drying skin.  What more can you ask for in a face wash?  Plus, in the summertime, using an oil to cleanse your skin is the secret to keeping your skin from overproducing oil.  It’s counterintuitive, but true!  I’ve been using the Kindred Skincare Co. oils to wash my face for a while now, and am obsessed. I use the normal Kindred Oil Cleanse most nights, but around my period or other times that my skin acts up, I switch to the Blemish Cleanse Oil.

Treat: Again, I use the Conture Kinetic Treatment Serum and the Conture Skin Toning System in the evening.  I love going to bed feeling like my skin got a good workout.  It’s glowy, hydrated, and feels ready to heal.  I follow this with my new favorite antioxidant serum (which I prefer to use at night during the summer), Organic Purist Acai Berry Antioxidants + Vitamins Anti-Aging Serum.  Seriously, this stuff is like a superfood smoothie for your skin.  Plus it’s super hydrating and all around amazing.  I’ll be reviewing it and a whole bunch of my other 100% Pure products soon!

Hydrate: I like to use retinol in the evenings as an ultimate anti-aging boost, so I finish off the the Conture PM Recovery Creme, which has extra retinol and other deeply hydrating ingredients that I love, but that don’t overload skin in the summertime.

Eyes:  CBD For Life Eye Serum (see above)

Thanks so much for the awesome info! This stuff looks amazing i love the visuals! does the CBD have actual CBD in it and what did you think of it? Have you or anyone heard of a company called Herban Nectar? I’m hearing a lot of buzz about them as far as organic skin care goes but I think they may be new so i’m not finding them on any of these lists. I love trying new skin products but I’d prefer to see some reviews about it first. The website is http://www.HerbanNectar.com if anyone can give me some insight I’d appreciate it!

Hi Do you know if the 3 creams with the Conture System are full of unnatural chemicals? I don’t know if they’re natural or not but you use them so I thought maybe you know something about them.
I try not to put chemicals on or in my body.
Please tell me if these lotions are safe. I’m interested in trying the contour.
    Thanks

      Hey Amy!
They definitely don’t have any red flag ingredients to avoid, and are very clean. That said, the formulas are not “good-enough-to-eat” clean, like many of the other products I review on the blog.
If you like to keep things 100% all-natural and super clean, then you can use the wand with your own favorite anti-aging serum, and still get great results!
