I’ve been pretty into Beautycounter and their clean, luxurious cosmetic and beauty products since they busted onto the scene a few years ago. Committed to safe and well-sourced ingredients and science-backed formulations. I got to try out the Beautycounter Countertime Collection and a few lovely makeup products a few months ago (check out my review), so when I heard they came out with a collection of Beautycounter Baby products, I just had to try it.
When picking products to use on my baby, I’m sure you can imagine how picky I am. If I was skilled (and ambitious) enough to make all her products myself, I would. But alas, I’m not quite that mom. But I am diligent about keeping harmful, toxic ingredients (and even questionable ingredients that haven’t been shown be completely 100% safe) away from my precious girl. I would never let her near a drugstore brand of baby care products, which are loaded with synthetic toxins. Thankfully, there are a few awesome natural baby care product lines out there, and I’m so happy Beautycounter has joined the ranks, lending their signature luxurious feel to an otherwise generally hippy-dippy scene.
Beautycounter has a massive list of about 1,500 harmful and questionable ingredients that they ban from all their product lines — in fact, they have a great pocket-sized guide to the 16 worst offenders (the Never List) that is perfect to keep in your wallet as a guide when you’re shopping for any beauty or skincare products for yourself or your family. I may not recognize every single ingredient in every product, but I can trust that everything in there has been thoroughly vetted for safety, especially for little ones.
The luxe baby care collection comes in Beautycounter’s trademark minimalist packaging, in muted pastel blue, silver, and white, which gives the line a beautiful calming feel.
The Baby Gentle All-Over Wash is a delightfully lathering hair and body wash, which is fragrance-free, tearless and perfect for baby’s sensitive skin. Filled with coconut-based cleansers, it leaves baby’s skin and hair clean, but never dry. Little M’s skin was smooth and hydrated, and her already baby-soft locks dried in the sweetest, downy curls. Her fine hair usually starts looking a little flat and oily by the end of the day, but after using the All-Over Wash, she stayed fluffy clean well into her second day after shampooing.
I follow bath time with the Baby Soothing Oil, a luxuriously hydrating formula made with organic sunflower, coconut, and jojoba seed oils. To further protect baby from harmful ingredients, the oil is fragrance-free, since many “fragrances” are actually blends of several synthetic ingredients, many of which can be harmful to a developing baby. I personally like to soothe little M with calming essential oils before bed, so I like to add a few drops of baby-safe essential oils to the bottle to create my own, all-natural, custom scent (lavender and Gentle Baby are favorites). Her skin was super soft and hydrated, and little dry spots she gets were completely gone by morning. I also love that the oil doesn’t feel greasy, and is quickly absorbed into skin.
The third product in this beautiful collection is the Baby Daily Protective Balm. Perfect for use as a diaper barrier balm, or for any dry or irritated skin, this thick balm is made from organic sunflower and jojoba oils blended with super hydrating organic shea butter. I use it at night on little M’s diaper area, and she woke up with the smoothest skin, despite a super full (12 hour!) diaper. I also use it on the little irritated, dry spots she gets around her nose and on her chin, and it works wonders! While I’m changing her, I also smooth a bit of the balm onto my dry hands, and love how baby soft and hydrated they’ve been!
