I’ve been loving the Illumai Biome Haircare System, a truly unique trio of products designed to restore your hair’s natural balance and luster.

Babies spend a ton of time on the floor. That’s where they progress with their gross motor skills, play with their toys, and gradually learn about independence. Frequent, regular floor play, particularly on their tummies, is awesome for our little ones, and is one of the best things we can do to support their development (that, and, paradoxically, holding and cuddling them the rest of the time ;).
So with the amount of time our babies spend on the floor, it’s so important that they have a safe, non-toxic space to play. Unfortunately, the common foam play mats from the days of yore do not provide them with that safe space.
In the world of health, we’re always looking for a quick fix. One magical pill, food, or tincture that will make it all better — help you lose weight, live longer, look better. There are thousands of products out there that claim just that. “Take two pills a day and you’ll [insert egregious health claim here]!” Though we may still be subconsciously looking for that one magic cure-all, our more rational minds tell us that it’s just not that easy. One supplement or food or herb is just not going to solve everything, but the good news is, there is a scientifically proven combination of factors that WILL promote a slimmer waist and healthy heart. And guess what? If you think about it, I’m sure you already know what it is.
Of course, the debate about what qualifies as a healthy diet, what supplements actually work, and what amount of what type of movement to do still rages on.
To answer this age-old debate, I turn to a couple of sources. Science, anecdotal evidence, and common sense. Allow me to break it all up:
Let’s face it, the world of natural, non-toxic anti-aging skincare still has a ways to go. In lieu of using the typical plumping, filling, anti-aging chemicals, most green beauty lines opt for the power of oils, essential and otherwise. Don’t get me wrong, no one loves and believes in the power of oils more than me, but sometimes, a girl needs a bit more. So you could go ahead and color me excited when a rep from Beautycounter reached out to me.
Beautycounter, based in my own beautiful Santa Monica, is a relatively new beauty company, dedicated to creating luxe and effective skincare that is totally safe. They have a “Never List” of banned ingredients that go way beyond the parabens, phthalates, and mineral oils that most of us make a point of avoiding. But the coolest thing is that these safe, luxurious products are jam-packed with super potent and effective ingredients that actually work.
Ok you guys, here it is.. our last big giveaway to celebrate 2016! This has been such a banner year, both personally and professionally — with the birth of little M, a huge growth in readership on the blog, and features in all kinds of publications. Super exciting stuff, and so much of it is due in no small part to you beautiful organic beauties reading the blog and showing your support. (The birth of M we accomplished all by ourselves thankyouverymuch ; ) It’s also been really fun seeing so many mamas and mamas-to-be coming out of the woodwork, and it’s been awesome to be able to support this subsection of our readership with our exclusive guides to natural, holistic parenting tips and tools.
To celebrate this awesome year and you awesome readers (particularly the ones with bebes) we are giving away a 4Moms bounceRoo bouncer! For you new mamas, having a great bouncer is so super crucial to maintaining your sanity — being able to shower, make a cup of tea, and put your little one down once in a while… not to mention naps!! We’ve been lucky enough to test a bunch of bouncers throughout little M’s infancy, and the 4Moms ones have definitely topped out our list!
I cannot overstate the importance of utmost absolute vigilance when selecting the products you use on and around your baby. This guide has products I have used and loved with my own baby, as well as a couple of vetted items that I didn’t get much use out of, but come highly recommended by my mommy community.
In general, there are a few things to keep in mind when selecting products for baby: safety, purity, and intention. Little babies are so sensitive to their environment, and the choices we make in the first months of their lives set them up for a healthy and happy childhood and rest of their lives. Choose the easy, cheap, unresearched route, and your child will likely battle issues like hormonal imbalance, allergies and asthma, behavioral issues and ADD, and even more serious long-term effects. Maybe a few items are a little more expensive than their drugstore or box store counterparts, but when it comes to your little one, it is soooo worth it. If budget is a concern, skip a few weekly trips to Starbucks and you will more than make up for the difference in cost.
In general, here are the rules I follow when choosing products for my baby:
Maybe it’s a remnant from my late pregnancy nesting days, but lately, all I have my eye on are awesome design-y gifts for the home. These great gifts are easy to obtain last minute, and will delight pretty much anyone on your list, design lover or not. And best of all, you can feel good about gifting these sustainable, green goodies that are good for the environment and the ones you love!
I’m not gonna lie, dressing a baby is pretty much the most fun thing in world. And when that baby is a little adorable chunk monster with pudgy little legs, that pleasure is amplified.
I’ll admit, I had a Pinterest board and Instagram feed teeming with adorable baby style loooooong before I had little M, like, embarrassingly long. And Freshly Picked Moccasins have been topping out my must have baby items for quite some time. These little puppies are durable, made of high quality leather and non-toxic materials, and most importantly, stay on little tiny chubby feet!
