The Easiest, Prettiest Holiday Photos You’ve Ever Done

Minted Holiday Photo | The Organic Beauty Blog

Growing up, we were never a holiday photo card family.  With the exception of school photos, we never had any professional photos taken — as a Russian-Jewish family, it just wasn’t something that was done.  Secretly, I always envied our American family friends around the holidays — those adorable family photo cards that we received, with the little updates on the goings-on of the year just seemed like such a special way to celebrate family milestones and share holiday cheer with friends.

Now that we have our own little family, I finally have the opportunity to partake in this distinctly American holiday tradition, and every year since our little one was born, we’ve created our holiday cards with Minted. I love their beautiful designs, ranging from minimal and modern to traditional and glitzy; I love how easy the cards are to customize; and I especially love the awesome perks, like free address labeling and maintaining a digital address book.

The purest makeup for every skin type

A girl’s makeup can sometimes feel like an ingrained part of our identity.  I know women who have literally used the same mascara brand since high school. We can get so attached to our makeup choices that it’s easy to totally overlook the safety of what we’re putting on our skin! I consider choosing to use the most non-toxic, purest makeup to be an act of self-care.  Not only are we choosing not to expose our skin (and therefore our entire system) to toxic chemicals, but we are also prioritizing the safety of our loved ones (I mean, our beaus eat up plenty of our lipstick when we smooch, and of course our kiddos are exposed to the products on our face and body with every hug, smooch, and snuggle).  So I love to discover new makeup brands that put a premium on purity and safety.

Omiana Talc-Free Natural Makeup | The Organic Beauty Blog

I first discovered Omiana over a year ago (when they were known as Epic Mineral Beauty), and was super impressed by their clean, talc and mica-free makeup that worked beautifully.  They’ve since rebranded and expanded their collection to include much more than just mineral makeup, and I have to say, the new line is even more impressive and definitely more luxe.

The Secret to Perfect Skin

Kindred Skincare Co. | The Organic Beauty Blog

I get asked a lot about my beauty secrets:  the secret recipe for weight loss, the magic ingredient for clear skin or to stave off the signs of aging.  Usually, I shy away from the fix-all way of thinking.  With weight loss and health concerns, there is definitely no one thing that makes all the difference (though those dark leafies come pretty close).  But with skincare, I have to break my own rule… There IS a secret to beautiful skin, and that is…

OIL.

A child of the 80’s and 90’s, I grew up fearing oils.  We bought oil-free everything when it came to skincare, and of course, that was mirrored in our eating, as we were taught that fat-free was the way to go.  Man, were we ever wrong.

High marks for cannabis: Beauty super-ingredient

CBD for Life | The Organic Beauty Blog

Being a recent west coast transplant, I am no stranger to all the buzz surrounding CBD (cannabidiol) as a super potent force for health and healing.  Along with THC, CBD is one of the active cannabinoids in cannabis, accounting for about 40% of the plant’s extract.  But unlike THC, CBD is non-psychoactive (read: it’s not gonna get you high), and is loaded with tons of health benefits.  Taken internally — typically in the form of an oral spray or vaporizer — it has been found (through legitimate research published in places like The British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology) to act as a major anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-depressant, anti-psychotic, anti-cancer, and anti-convulsant.  Pretty much anti-everything-bad-you-can-think-of.  This accounts for it’s widespread use in our beloved new state of California as a first line of natural medicine to treat a variety of health issues.  But even newer research is showing some pretty exciting results about CBD’s as a super powerful beauty ingredient, with the power to slow the signs of aging, heal dry skin, and calm breakouts… all this in addition to the proven topical effects of pain relief and decreasing inflammation.

Knowing how powerful CBD is internally, I knew I had to try it’s beauty effects for myself.

Maty’s: Effective and Safe Products for Baby’s Skin

Matys-Baby-Products-on-The-Organic-Beauty

Both as a holistic health practitioner and now as a new mom, I get so infuriated when reading the ingredients of common baby products found in drugstores, and unfortunately, the medicine cabinets of most American families.  Petrolatum, mineral oil, parabens, tetrasodium EDTA.  Just one glance at the ingredient list of popular baby brands like Johnson and Johnson’s, Desitin, and A+D read like a list of who’s who of toxic, carcinogenic chemicals. And yet, many parents don’t think twice about applying these products to their baby’s delicate skin, exposing them to harmful toxins when they are most vulnerable.
